Digital Switchover Conference
The European Satellite Operators’ Association organised a one-day conference on Digital Switchover in the Baltic States. Speakers included Members of the European Parliament, Members of the Baltic governments and the Chief Executive Officers of top European businesses.
Digital switchover is an important step along the way to making Europe the most competitive knowledge-based economy in the world by 2010, a goal set for Europe at the Lisbon European Council in March 2000. Digital Switchover is also a key area where satellites are particularly instrumental. As well as being able to reach most European citizens no matter where in Europe they are located; satellites have been delivering digital transmission almost since their inception many years ago. They have done this without state intervention and are now providing high-definition TV, the next step up in digital transmission. European Satellite operators are directly concerned with the way in which many EU member states are implementing the transition from analogue to digital transmission and the purpose of this conference was to engage with key decision-makers in the Baltic States to discuss the main issues surrounding this topic.
