• Satellite kits (dish + modem) is normally 350€, but most commercial offerings provide that the service provider leases the equipment or offers it “free of charge”, embedding its cost in the monthly service fee

Does it work?

And what about latency?

Because your broadband signal travels to and from the satellite, some Internet applications work differently over satellite than they do on a copper/fibre network. Typically the more data being sent either way, the better the system performs. Hence latency has the least impact on applications like file downloading (e.g. films, photos) and streaming. From Email to Internet and social media to VoIP, the performance is exactly the same. The only user experience affected by latency is online gaming.
