ESOA Highlights benefits of Satellite Services for Poland
23 November 2011, Warsaw, Poland
Poland being one the recipients of the largest amounts of EU funds, ESOA highlighted at a Eurisy conference, how this EU Member State, full of nature reserves, marshlands and also home to the Mazurian Lake District, can benefit from satellite services.
ESOA Secretary General, Aarti Holla-Maini noted to listeners how Polish regions could - with a nominal investment in satellite terminals - enable broadband Internet in any corner of the country, thereby meeting the European Commission's 2013 Digital Agenda for Europe target for 100% coverage within a year. That too, without digging up any of the 823 protected areas in Poland under the EU Natura 2000 program. With the Mazurian lake District having been a finalist in the 'new 7 wonders of nature' competition, Green ICT is considered very important in Poland, where it is essential not to disturb natural ecosystems with unnecessary civil works.
Poland lacks behind many other EU Member States in terms of DSL connectivity and broadband via satellite could enable Poland to jump ahead if it opted for this solution, especially in its most sparsely populated areas.
