DID YOU KNOW?

Satellite communications allow optimal and “green” management of remotely located renewable energy plants? As they do not consume electric power, they are not polluting, unlike other land-based communications infrastructures.

Areas with water reserves, large open areas/ coastal areas lend themselves to renewable energy production and management. Satellites contribute to clearn energy production by observing and transmitting data on: speed & direction of wind/ availability, temperature & reserves of water, solar radiation & cloud obstruction, biomass & crop yield, and more generally temperatures in different locations.

Furthermore satellites monitor forests: over-harvesting, fire damage, assessment of greenhouse gas release.

Space based information and communication systems can reduce the rate of global deforestation by 15-20% via regulation & verification measures.

Projects throughout Europe make use of satellite communications to remote control energy plants with 24/7 monitoring and transmission of real-time data.
